Area rugs are a great way to enhance your home. Rugs can add warmth and sophistication to your living space. They are also perfect for padding and softening your hard wood floors. Whatever your personal style, you’ll have a wide selection of rugs to suit your color scheme and personality. Whether you decide on the Sunbrella indoor/outdoor rugs or plush wool, a rug can really bring design and style to your room.
Rugs are more than floor coverings; rugs act a s a piece of art for your floor. Why not think of a rug as art? You have all sorts of designs, patterns and colors to work with.
Area rugs is a generic term that might apply to almost any rug, but, often means a 4×6 feet or larger. Mostly they are used to anchor the furniture or under a dining set. Also, people like to coordinate small throw rugs to add a punch of color in the kitchen and foyer.
Small rugs and accent rugs can be placed wherever they look good or fulfill a specific purpose. Larger rugs look best when basic guidelines for placement are followed. Since the larger rug often serves as an anchor for a furniture grouping or the main floor covering in a room, proper placement is essential for many reasons, including a balanced look.
A typical setting for a large rug is under a cocktail table or in front of a sofa. The table is usually centered between the long ends of the rug. I prefer the rug to be placed about 2-3 inches away from the sofa or just under the front legs of the sofa to define the space more. If you use a large rug that covers most of the room allow at least 8 inches or more of the hardwood floor to be exposed. Center the rug in the room with equal distance from wall to wall.
Have fun with your area rugs. Remember it can really add to your finishing décor just as a piece of art or lamp would.
